2018 Untamed New England Adventure Race

22 July 2018

I had a screaming headache, my hand brushed against the dent in my helmet from my crash earlier in the day. "I can't believe you got up after that fall" was what Cliff kept repeating. I was trying to make sense of the situation through the migraine. Our team seemed to be in complete shambles this morning, and this crash was the last straw.

Ghost Train 100 Mile Ultramarathon

21 October 2016

I remember saying I'd never do a 100-miler. I remember seeing the folks doing this when I ran my first 50 miler at GTRTR in 2012, and thinking “Why would anyone want to do this." I remember explicitly telling Steff there was no way I'd run a 100 miler and laughed at the idea. Eric broke the course record for GTRTR in 2013 and couldn't walk for a week, my mind was made up.

2016 Get Stoked Rogaine

29 April 2016

This was going to be a fun one, we flew down to Maryland and stayed with Eric's sister on Friday, then woke up at 3am on Saturday to head to Stokesville, VA for a 7am start time on the race. Eric had found this particular rogaine, and we both decided it would be cool to attempt solo so we could get better at our individual weaknesses. Given the light AR schedule we had this year, doing a pure rogaine seemed awesome, since the required gear was super minimal, and the entire race would be on foot.

2017 Frigid Infliction

03 March 2016

As always, this is one of my favorite races to bring people to every year, and especially great to introduce new people to the sport. I was pumped that this year Evan and I would be showing our friend Rob what the sport was all about, and of course my dad, sister, and her boyfriend JP would be reprising their role as team “Directionally Challenged". We planned on racing as a large 6 person mega-team again and just enjoying the day. The weather was supposed to be… interesting to say the least. Leading up to race day temps were projected to start below freezing and never go above 0, with 20-30 mph winds making it feel closer to -30 degrees. Rob informed me of the fun 30/30/30 rule, at -30 degrees, with 30 mph winds, you get frostbite on exposed skin in 30 seconds! Fortunately it wasn't going to be that cold, but it was going to be colder than I'd ever raced before.

2015 Cowboy Tough Adventure Race

28 July 2015

The race started in Buffalo, Wyoming in Crazy Woman Square. The governor of Wyoming was there to meet and greet with us all and to start the race off by firing a blank from a pistol he was carrying around (let me tell you, this was no starter pistol, this thing was loud!) This prelude to the race was intended to start separating teams, and folks rushed off in multiple directions to complete the foot challenges.

2013 Frigid Infliction

01 March 2013

We woke up bright and early on Saturday morning, 3:15am, to prep for the race. We had packed pretty much everything the night before, so all we had to do was put on our race clothes, have a quick protein bar for breakfast, and then head on down to the Nordic Center for check-in.
